KCLC BLUEGRASS DJ GENE ROBERTS


Gene ("That about knocks the rag off the bush") Roberts, along with Co-Host, Walter Volz, hosts the Monday night Bluegrass show on KCLC from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. He also does a show on another radio station on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am to Noon, called "Country Function and Bluegrass Junction". Gene is proud to be a charter member of the M.A.B.C. (Mo. Area Bluegrass Committee), and the I.B.M.A. (International Bluegrass Music Association). Gene was also an early member of the CMA, (Country Music Association, and also of the G.C.M.A., (Gateway Country Music Association). As of May 1999, Gene has accumulated 52 years of Radio/Broadcasting under his belt. He got his first radio program on the Armed Forces Network on Okinawa in May of 1947. (As he says, "I have played a lot of Bluegrass on a lot of Radio Stations."

Gene says he likes all forms of music, with a particular love for Bluegrass/Country, Gospel, Cajun, and some Rockabilly thrown in. He is still very active in radio but not as much as he used to be, he adds. In Gene's own words, "I have done it all for many years. Now I let the younger folks do it and I do what I can when I can."
